Two years ago I started a prayer group for our high school’s senior class of 2020. We met by conference call once a week all the way through what turned out to be a chaotic and unsettling year. Well, I have another senior and so I’m back to pray for these kids every week. Our high school group meets by phone for ten minutes or so every Friday morning. Part of the prayers includes praying for each student in the class by name.
We use a service called FreeConferenceCall.com, and it records our calls each week. If you are part of our school, you can access the call to hear the recording shortly after we have it. If you have seniors at another school, it’s easy to set up a call and do this for your kids.
I will post the prayer in written form here every week. I won’t include the kids’ names, and I’ve removed specific references to our sweet school so you can feel free to share. I hope these are a blessing to you throughout this special year! Here we go:
Father:
It’s so good to gather together, to sit with you, share our joys and worries with you. It’s always good to remember David’s words:
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright. Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them. The works of His hands are faithful and just; all His precepts are trustworthy; They are established forever and ever. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; All those who practice it have a good understanding. Praise the Lord!
We praise you for summer rest and changing seasons. Our hearts are full for our kids right now, Lord, especially after thinking about college applications right now! You know each worry and each point of joy. But there are things we all pray for our kids.
First, that they desire wisdom first. Clear the way for their path, teach them to be wise like you taught Solomon. Put relationships in their lives that will encourage wisdom, too. Help them to make the best use of their time in this, their last high school year.
We pray for the friendships our kids have, too. Strengthen then bonds these kids already have, and help new friendships to form this year. Help them to be sensitive to each other’s needs, and quick to extend a hand of friendship, even when they haven’t before.
All the fall sports are starting up right now. Thank you for strong, fit bodies, good teammates and committed coaches. Help each athlete to compete to their very best ability. Keep them injury-free, and guard their travel to the competitions and games.
There are a million ways to pray for the teachers and staff at Landmark, Lord, but today at the beginning of the year, we just want to say thank you. What an incredible blessing to surround our kids with men and women who love You, and who love learning, and who love our kids. As we start this year, thank you for each one of them.
And on that note, wow–You are faithful in providing. The new building is amazing–an example of your faithfulness to our school. We saw that in the was the funding and construction came together in such a weird year. Sometimes we need tangible reminders of Your love for us. Help us to see it at the new high school, and may it be filled with blessings that testify to Your goodness.
And then, most importantly, we pray for the first time today over the entire senior class of 2022. You know their hearts, Father. We pray for each one. (You can say each student’s name here.)
Now to Him who is able to do farm more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory forever and ever,
Amen.
I hope you have a great week! Credit to a psalmist (maybe David?) for Psalm 111 and to Paul for the benediction from Ephesians, Chapter 3.
