Or, more specifically, “Mom’s Awesome Christmas Brownies.” I posted these over on Instagram and had a few requests for the recipe.
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 16 oz. can chocolate syrup
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Oven at 350. Grease a 13 x 9 pan. Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the eggs, one at a time, and then the syrup and vanilla, and beat very well. Stir in the flour and salt. Add the nuts last. (I actually don’t put nuts in the batter but save them for the last step.) Back for 22-25 minutes. Keep an eye on them; you don’t want them to look baked all the way through, but they will start to pull away from the sides of the pan slightly. While still warm, add the frosting:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 milk
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Put the first three ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Stir and boil for one minute. Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips. Beat until smooth. Spread on the brownies immediately. Argue over who will lick then pan and spoon.
I put a pecan half on the top of each brownie and cut them quite small, just a little larger than the pecan half itself. Cut them into tiny squares. They can be covered and stored in the refrigerator for quite a long time. Enjoy!!
