We’re back with the prayer for the Class of 2020 today. I sincerely hope you and your family are doing well. Here at Casa Drury we are getting a little tired, a little down, and I have to say that my kids never knew how much they could miss school! Having this weekly prayer has been a lifeline to me, one of the few things untouched by COVID-19.
This week’s prayer references Psalm 66, John 10, and Philippians, among others. I’m grateful to Carlos Whittaker for reminding me to pray the promises of God. He is worth checking out–his Instagram (@loswhit) is a bright spot in my day!
I mentioned this video today, as well. Coach G is a treasure and always worth watching. I hope you enjoy it.
Father,
Thank You for another week to learn to love You more, for You to shape our hearts, and another week to spend with our kids. It’s always right to begin by praising You:
Shout for joy to God, all the earth; Sing the glory of His name; Give Him glorious praise! Say to God, "How awesome are Your deeds! So great is Your power that Your enemies come cringing to you. All the earth worships You and sings praises to You; They sing Praises to Your name. Come and see what God has done: He is awesome in His deeds toward the children of man. Blessed be God because He has not rejected my prayer or removed His steadfast love from me!
Lord, thank You that we can count on Your steadfast love.
This was a tough week for these kids, Father. They miss each other and they miss their teachers and coaches, but missing prom last night was so concrete. Help us as parents to be compassionate and yet also to remind our kids of the incredible blessings they still have in their lives, not least of which is Your love, big enough to send a Savior in Jesus.
But You have also promised many things to Your children. During days that seem filled with the works “cancelled” and “separation” and “distance,” days that seem full of the destruction of plans and even jobs and families, we know that these come from the destroyer. They don’t come from You. Jesus promised life, abundant life, even in the face of these. Show our kids that abundant life. Keep their ears prepared to hear Your voice and their eyes prepared to see Your abundant goodness that is still present.
The seniors have just one more week of classes at Landmark. It’s hard to believe they are so close to the finish line of this particular race. Show each one of our kids that it’s not the end of their race with You–that, like Paul, there is a real prize with You and the call of God in Christ Jesus. I pray that each one of our seniors can continue to press towards that goal even while they mark these earthly goals, too. And I pray that they don’t get distracted in their understanding that each one of them is loved uniquely and specially, not just by us their parents but by You, the creator of the Universe.
We continue to pray for the health of safety of all of our seniors, for the families, and for our entire school community. Give stamina to all the teachers as they work in conditions utterly foreign to their normal lives. Give wisdom to all the nurses, doctors, and everyone working to end the COVID-19 pandemic. Give incredible discernment to our leaders in government as they decide when and how to end the quarantine.
And, knowing our kids and loving them as You do, we bring each member of the class of 2020 before You. You know the needs and desires of their hearts: [Insert the names of those you are praying for here.]
We close with a few more of Paul’s words to the Philippians, and we pray them over our own kids:
We thank God in all our remembrances of our children, always in every prayer. We are sure of this: That He who began a good work in our children will bring it to completion in the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for us to feel this way about them all, for we hold them in our heart. And it is our prayer that their love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that they may approve what is excellent, so to be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.
Amen.
I hope you have a great weekend. Please feel free to share this and adapt it as you need to.
